Visit to Newchurch - July 2005
Another successful Twinning visit took place this year in July. Our friends from Villainville
visited and stayed with families in the Parish.
The weekend started with a visit to the wonderful Flower Festival at All
Saints' Church on Saturday 2nd July.
Later in the evening everyone met in the Community Hall to enjoy a BarBQ
and Barn Dance.
On
Sunday a trip was organised to Havenstreet Steam Railway to attend the 1940's
weekend. Everyone enjoyed riding on the train and looking at the exhibits. The
weather was good and just right for a picnic on the grass.
At the end of the day the "big boys" of the group decided to go
for a drive in an armoured vehicle - much to the amusement of the rest of the
group.
Sunday evening some of the "Twinners" got together for another
celebratory evening - which included the biennial game of croquet between
the French and English. Patriotic songs were sung before and during the
game. The contest was close with the leaders changing often.
Our visitors returned to Villainville on Monday afternoon after a busy but
very enjoyable weekend.
