The NPS&CA have achieved much over the last 22 years and the whole Parish
has benefited.
The Association joined with the Isle of Wight
Education Authority in the remodelling of the school at Newchurch village.
It contributed a large sum of money towards the construction of a dual
purpose hall. This hall is known as a Community Centre as well as a Hall for
the School.
The Association acquired approximately 5 acres
of land at Watery Lane for use as a sports ground.
The Association built a
Pavilion, with changing room facilities and a meeting room on the land. This
land is used as a football field and flood lights have been erected.
The
Association also gave permission for the building of an Observatory on the
field for the Newchurch based Vectis Astronomical Society. This
facility, which was purpose built, houses a large telescope and excellent
equipment for visual and specialised observing techniques.
The Association also acquired approximately an
acre of land in the village behind the Pointer Inn to form a small
recreation ground. This land is hopefully to be developed as an area for the
children of the Parish.
The Association leases a field from the Isle of
Wight Council, on which the annual Garlic Festival was held. This field is
leased on a three year lease and may be available for other activities.
The Association has also provided substantial grants towards the cost of
the building of a village car park; towards the building of Newchurch
Village car park; towards facilities for the Community Hall as well as
annually allocating grants to Parish based organisations for many different
projects.
