Alverstone
Village
Alverstone village lies to the east of the village of Newchurch.
Nowadays it is a quiet village with a few houses, couple of farms and a
village hall.
Formerly it also had a school, a shop, a railway and station and a mill, where people
used to go boating and have afternoon tea. Alverstone was a hive of
activity, today it is a peaceful village full of tranquillity.
The former railway line from Horringford to Sandown has been transformed into a
cycle
track. It is a lovely walk along the side of the river Yar. The side of the
track is covered with wild flowers
with
lovely views over the Parish of Newchurch.
The track between Alverstone towards Sandown forms a border of Alverstone
Mead Nature Reserv
e.
The former station can be seen in the
distance.

Rushes by the water.
The walk on the railway track has been enhanced by a number of sculptures in the
form of orbes which have been positioned in a number of different places. Here
are photographs of two of them - one on Alverstone bridge and the other on a
tree along the river. There are others, have you seen them? Can you give me any
details of them?

Don't forget to click
on the images if you wish to see them clearly.
