Alverstone Station and Railway line

Alverstone was on the railway line from Sandown via Newchurch and Horringford to Newport. The railway was closed down in1956.

Here is  a group of photographs showing the station and the railway.

Alvstation.JPG (30665 bytes) The station is now a private house as can be seen from the photograph on the left. The station is alongside the river Yar that feeds the Mill pond. The adjacent road goes from Adgestone to Borthwood and then along to Apse heath.
