A Typical YearA typical year for the Ladies' ChoirThe
year since the last Garlic Festival has been another busy one for the Newchurch
Ladies Choir. Months of hard practice has resulted in the performance of a
number of concerts throughout the year. Two
were special fundraisers, one at the Medina Theatre, in conjunction with
Newchurch Men’s Choir and Cowes Band, in aid of Midhurst hospital and a repeat
performance at the Wintergarden, Ventnor in aid of the Ventnor Carnival Fund. The Choir also participated in the Harvest Festival and the Carol Concert at Langbridge Chapel; the Christmas Concert and the Flower Festival at Newchurch All Saints Church and the Anniversary Service at Apse Heath Chapel. Some
members also participated in two ‘Songs of Praise’ programmes recorded by
the BBC, one at Cowes Marina and the other at St Thomas’ Newport. Other
concerts were held at Newport, Godshill, Arreton, Newchurch, Lake and Shanklin. Weddings
and Funerals also feature in our activities. The
Ladies choir also sung with with the Newchurch Men’s choir at a number of
events to make a magnificent choir of over 50 members. As
a reward for all this hard work a slap up meal was enjoyed at the Kingswood
Hotel, Sandown in July.
In reciprocation for the support given by the Newchurch Parish Sports and Community Association to our choir over the years, some members act as marshals at the annual Garlic Festival (and have a thoroughly enjoyable time doing so).
