News: The Newchurch Drama Group have scooped a

Newchurch Drama Group was established many years ago from the love of
producing short plays and musicals under the auspices of the Newchurch WI.
Concerts were organised by the Newchurch WI and the Newchurch Ladies Choir
with the help of additional enthusiastic people from Newchurch Parish (which
also included some men!). From this the Jones' family decided that it would be a
good idea to set up the Newchurch Drama Group.
The Drama group has gone from strength to strength and has become well
respected by the whole of the Isle of Wight. It produces a wide variety of plays to
satisfy all tastes.
The Drama group now produces 3 major productions each year. In February the
group put on a pantomime; in May they usually have an evening made up of two,
short one act plays and the year is rounded off in October by a large play. This
is often a farce which is enjoyed on a number of nights by enthusiastic
audiences.
In October 2002 the group put on the well known farce - No Sex please
we're British. The play was produced in The Newchurch Community Hall for
two nights to packed audiences and it was really enjoyed by all.
