April and May 2006

April Meeting

The monthly meeting on Monday 24th April was preceded by the Annual Parish Meeting. As a result of suggestions at the two meetings several requests were submitted to the IWC Highways department including: the extension of the 30mph zone westwards along Newport Road at Apse Heath and the introduction of a 40mph zone over the Branstone Cross intersection; a warning triangle to be painted on the road surface near the top of Knighton Shute; and provision of hardstandings at bus stops in Knighton for waiting passengers.

The Chairman reported that he had submitted an application to the Rural Community Council for a grant towards the production of a Parish Plan, as approved by the Council at its March meeting. Five Planning Applications were considered: it was resolved to object to two of them, both of which have subsequently been granted permission by the IWC!

May Meeting and AGM

The May meeting was also the Annual (General) Meeting of the Parish Council. At this meeting

Mr Richards was elected Chairman and Mr Jupe Vice-Chairman. Representatives were appointed to the IW Association of Parish and Town Councils, the Newchurch Parish Sports and Community Association, the Newchurch Community Partnership and Waste Services. Three Planning Applications were considered, the Council objecting to just one.

Two reports were received of the Rights of Way section of the IWC undertaking strimming of footpaths that had resulted in many bluebells being cut down. It was noted that a dog bin had been provided by the cycleway/bridleway at Langbridge.

The Clerk presented the accounts for the year ending 31st March 2006 and the Annual Return was completed.
