Vectis Astronomical SocietyThe Vectis Astronomical Society was founded
in 1976 to promote island-wide interest in astronomy.
It has a membership of some 95 people of all
ages with interests in the various facets of astronomy; from basic
observation and recognition of the constellations, galaxies and planets to
specialised activities like astrophotography.
The Society meets every fourth Friday in the month (except December) at Newport Parish Church Hall, Town Lane 7.30pm. They have talks given by members and invited guest lecturers from various parts of England. These cover a wide range of subjects from the elementary to specialised professional astronomical activities.
A raffle is held at each meeting and light refreshments are available. |
Technical advice on astronomical matters is feely available to members and some telescopic equipment may be purchased at a moderate price.
All members are entitled to the monthly magazine - The New Zenith.
The Society also holds an extensive library of astronomical books to meet all levels of astronomical knowledge. These books are on loan free to all members.
